二つのもの（人）のうちの一つ（人）という意味が基本です。
しかし、両方を意味することもあれば、否定文では二つとも否定する意味となるなど、分かりにくい単語です。
either の使い方の要点を分かりやすく解説します。

疑問文・条件文での either
形容詞の either
Will you lend me either book?
（どちらかの本を貸してくれませんか。）

～ も ～ も・・・ない という意味になります。 つまり、どちらも否定。= neither A nor B
副詞の either
If you don’t agree with the idea, I won’t either. = (neither will I.)
（その意見にあなたが同意しなければ、私も同意しない。）
”I don’t like that movie.” ”I don’t, either.” = (Neither do I.)
（あの映画は好きじゃない。私も好きじゃない。）
否定文の後で、・・・もまた・・・でない。
neither を使う場合は、主語と（助）動詞が倒置されます。
まとめ
either の意味は文のタイプによって違ってきます。
１．疑問文・条件文での either は「二つあるものうちどちらか一つの」という意味になります。
２．否定文での either は「二つあるもののどちらも否定する」という意味になります。
３．肯定文での either は「二つあるもののうちのどちらでも」という意味になります。
４．接続詞の either A or B 肯定文では「A か B か」どちらか。否定文では「A も Bも・・ない」となりどちらも否定する意味になります。
５．副詞の either は否定文を繰り返す際に、2回目の否定の文末に使います。
